Fish: Clown Loach (Clown Botia)
Refrence: [link]

I really like this one. I spent a lot of time on it. It is more difficult to get shades of orange, yellow, and red to match then you would think. Yellow is an especially difficult color to work with, but it paid off! The colors are sort of a charicature of the actual Clown Loach's colors, enhanced for effect.
I fought and fought to get some kind of scale pattern on his black sections, but it just looked much better in the design to keep it the color of the background.
I'm on the fence about his eyeball. It was trouble from the beginning.

Critique HIGHLY encouraged. Shoot me down to build me up.

Really? I almost got some because I had quite a snail problem and I heard they ate them, btut hen the Snails went away on their own.
Of course, I'm sure they just laid their eggs which are waiting patiently to hatch.
You say that about a lot of my art! I am thinking at the moment about turning it into a magnet or a mug design or one of the other rediculous things Deviant Art offers. I'll do a few more little fishy designs and see what heppens!
I really dig this. I think I actually prefer the black bits being solid and blending with the background than I would if they had some sort of scale pattern. The gradient and the detail on the fins are also respectable. While those bubbles are cool and all, they seem a little biggish, but I don't actually know how big a clown loach is or how big random air bubbles are in whatever sort of watter clown loaches tend to swim in. I gather they're included more to fill negative space than for realism, anyway.

About the eye, though... I dunno. I can see where it would give you trouble, but as is it just doesn't seem to fit quite right. I'm not sure what you tried before settling on this one, but I would suggest having a "doughnut" instead of a solid oval. I like the gradient on the eye, but it just doesn't look right since fish eyes are usually perfectly circular.

You know, a school of fish in the spirit of this design probably would look really cool on a shirt.
